Chico Pereira’s (1979, Almaden, Spain) fiction short films explore the idea of physical and psychological entrapment: a man caught in a ventilation shaft in attempt to get into a Disco (2010), a father condemned to relive his memories endlessly at 6,05 pm (2008) and even a movie hero trapped in the wrong film inThe Way To Macondo (2009). Chico moves towards documentary by devising minimalist narratives inspired by real-life characters and performed by them as part of his MFA Advanced Film Practice research at Edinburgh Napier University.El Invierno de Pablo (Pablo’s Winter), currently in post-production, is the application of his Masters research within the documentary genre.

El Invierno de Pablo is the story of a retired mercury miner trying to stop smoking with the end of the mining culture as an important backdrop. These miners and their families have been widely underrepresented. Somehow, with this film we aim to make justice to the essential role that the mercury miners have had in the history of this town, as well as showing how working in the mines might have shaped up the way the see the world. And have screened the filmmaker’s finest short films in various festivals around UK.
